Visiting Port of Spain in November
November weather in Port of Spain
November is hot, humid and often cloudy, with rain on most days. Showers can interrupt a walk through downtown or an afternoon at the Queen's Park Savannah, so keep sightseeing flexible. The rain doesn't usually mean a washout all day, but muddy paths make hikes less appealing.
You'll still find plenty to do between showers. Visit the National Museum and Art Gallery, or take in the architecture around Woodford Square. Beach trips are possible, but November's frequent rain makes this a less reliable month for a full day by the water. February to April is a better bet for drier weather.
Events and crowds
Divali, the Hindu festival of lights, sometimes falls in November. Its date changes each year, and celebrations at Divali Nagar in nearby Chaguanas are a major draw. If you're in town then, expect lamps, music and food stalls; the site is outside Port of Spain, so allow time for the trip.
If you hate crowds, November is generally calmer than Carnival season. It's also before the busy Christmas period, when visitors and returning residents can lift demand. Prices are often less pressured than during Carnival or the Christmas holidays, though they vary by hotel and event dates.
Make the most of your visit
November is a reasonable month for a city break if you're happy to work around showers. Don't build your whole day around an exposed trail or beach; keep an indoor stop in reserve.
Travelling with kids? Use the Queen's Park Savannah for a short outing when the ground is dry, then head to the nearby museum if rain rolls in. For Divali, try doubles, a Trinidadian snack of curried chickpeas in fried flatbread, at the festival rather than treating the event as only a light display. The sticky air can make a long afternoon tiring, so shorter outings often feel better.
