December: hot and rainy

December feels sticky from morning to evening, with highs around 30°C and nights still warm. Rain falls on many days, and thick cloud often dulls the light. November is drier; January is wetter, so December sits between the two. The weather can interrupt outdoor plans, but showers don't rule out a visit.

The National Museum and Art Gallery makes a good rainy-day stop, while Port Moresby Nature Park works best when the skies are clear. Varirata National Park's trails can turn slippery, so don't count on a long hike after heavy rain. If you're visiting Ela Beach, expect warm water but less reliable beach weather.
