April: wet-season feel

April stays warm, but the air feels heavy and damp. Rain falls on many days, and thick cloud leaves little bright sunshine. It's a poor month for weather, though showers can still leave gaps for a visit to the National Museum and Art Gallery or a meal of grilled fish by Ela Beach.

March is much wetter, while May is drier, so April is a step away from the rainiest stretch. Varirata National Park can be slippery after rain, and cloud may spoil the views. Keep outdoor plans flexible rather than relying on a full day of hiking.
