Maiduguri is very hot in May. Daytime highs reach 41°C, and nights stay warm, with lows of 27°C. April is slightly hotter, but May brings more rain: showers fall on about six days. The sky is often cloudy, yet sunshine averages only 3.7 hours a day.

That mix can make outdoor sightseeing tiring. Keep visits to places such as the Shehu's Palace brief, and save longer walks for cooler parts of the day. Rain may interrupt a trip, but it's not constant enough to plan around a washout. June is cooler and much wetter.

Holidays and crowds
