June feels like summer: afternoons can be hot, while mornings and evenings are cooler. Rain is limited, so you can usually count on dry days for exploring. The long daylight gives you time to see the Prado or stroll through Retiro Park, but a full afternoon outdoors can feel tiring.

Save the open plazas and long walks for later in the day. For a cooler break, browse the covered galleries at the Reina Sofía or linger over lunch in La Latina. The move from May's milder weather is noticeable, and July gets hotter still.

Events and crowds

Madrid Pride celebrations often begin in late June, with events around Chueca and central Madrid. The main parade is sometimes held in early July, so dates vary by year. Expect lively streets and busy Metro trains near Pride events.

If you hate crowds, choose a quieter week and visit Chueca outside event hours. June is busier and often pricier than spring, as summer visitors arrive; it's still generally calmer than peak holiday periods in July and August. Madrid's best months overall are April to May and September to October.

Make the heat work for you

Travelling with kids? Plan a slower afternoon, then head out again when the sun eases. You'll have plenty of daylight for a relaxed evening walk along Gran Vía or dinner in La Latina.

For a practical local trick, use the Metro to reach Retiro's Ibiza station, then enter near the park's eastern side. You'll avoid a long walk across the city before reaching the shade and the boating lake. Don't expect June to feel mild just because spring was pleasant: afternoons can reach 30°C.
