Madrid Weather in April

Mild days, cool evenings

April feels like spring in Madrid, but it isn't reliably warm all day. Afternoons reach about 19°C, while nights can fall to 6°C. Rain comes on around 10 days, so a shower can interrupt a long walk.

It's a good month for the Prado, Retiro Park and strolling between cafés in La Latina. Avoid building a whole day around outdoor plans; keep a museum or covered market in mind if rain sets in. Evenings on a terrace can feel chilly once the sun goes down.

Easter and the city

Semana Santa, the week before Easter, brings religious processions through central Madrid when Easter falls in April. Streets around the city centre can close or fill with spectators, especially during key processions. It's a chance to see a local tradition, but allow extra time if you're crossing the centre.

If you hate crowds, skip the busiest procession routes and explore Retiro instead. Easter dates change each year, so April doesn't always include the holiday.

April is one of Madrid's best months for a visit, and it's busier than the quieter winter months. Easter week can bring a noticeable jump in visitors and hotel prices; outside that period, the city is usually easier to enjoy than in peak summer.

For a practical plan, check the route of any Semana Santa procession before heading to the Royal Palace or Plaza Mayor. You may need to take a different street or use the Metro. If you're travelling with kids, Retiro's wide paths are an easier break from the crowded centre.
