May is warm, damp and often cloudy. Daytime highs reach 29°C, while evenings stay mild, so you won't need much change in plans after sunset. But rain falls on 21 days, and the humidity can make a walk feel sticky. Expect showers to interrupt outdoor plans, not just one big washout.

You can still explore Liuhou Park or take in the river views between showers. Long hikes and all-day outdoor sightseeing are less reliable, and wet paths can make trails slippery. The sun averages only a few hours a day, so don't count on a bright beach-style break.

What to do on rainy days

Keep your plans flexible. A spell of rain is a good time to try Liuzhou luosifen, the city's famous rice noodles with a tangy, sour broth. For a family trip, leave room for indoor stops rather than promising children a full day outside.

Popular sights and transport can feel busier around the holiday, while the rest of May is generally quieter than peak travel periods. Prices may rise during the holiday, then ease afterward; October to December is a more popular time to visit overall.

Use Liuzhou's covered shopping streets and food spots as shelter when showers pass through, then return to the riverfront when the rain lets up. Around Yufeng Park, keep an eye on the paths after heavy rain, especially if you're heading up Yufeng Mountain for city views.

May is wetter than April and not as wet as June, but it's already a very rainy month. For a drier, sunnier trip, consider October to December instead.
