Larnaca Weather in May

May feels like summer

May is warm and bright in Larnaca, but it's not yet as hot as June. Afternoons reach about 26°C, with mild evenings around 19°C. Rain is rare, so you can enjoy long walks along Finikoudes promenade or spend an easy afternoon at Mackenzie Beach.

The sea and sun suit beach days, while the cooler part of the day is better for exploring Saint Lazarus Church and the old town. May's sunshine can still feel strong, so save a long walk around Larnaca Salt Lake for later in the day. It's often dry by then, and the lake is quieter than in winter.

May events and crowds

Labour Day on May 1 is a public holiday in Cyprus. Some shops and services may close, so check locally if you're counting on a particular place. Larnaca's Anthestiria flower festival is often held in May, with a flower parade, but its date can vary.

If you hate crowds, May is a good middle ground: it's busier than the quieter winter months, but usually calmer than July and August. It's also shoulder season, so stays can cost less than in peak summer, though prices vary.

Make the most of the seafront

Travelling with kids? Finikoudes is an easy choice, with a sandy beach and cafés close to the promenade. For a quieter swim, head to Mackenzie, where planes landing at Larnaca Airport pass low overhead.

A local tip: visit Saint Lazarus Church early in your day, then stop at a nearby bakery for flaounes, a traditional cheese pastry often made around Easter. May can be a little late for them, so ask what's fresh rather than counting on finding one.
