March in La Paz feels cool, damp and often cloudy. Afternoons reach about 15°C, but mornings and evenings can feel chilly, with lows around 5°C. Rain falls on many days, so a clear stretch isn't guaranteed.

You can still explore the Witches' Market and central streets between showers. The Mi Teleférico cable cars are a handy way to see the city from above, though clouds can hide the views. Save exposed walks around Valle de la Luna for a drier spell; muddy paths and showers can make them less enjoyable.

Carnival dates shift each year, so celebrations may fall in March. Holy Week can also land in March, bringing church services and processions in some years. Check the calendar for your travel year before building your plans around either event.

Travelling with kids? The cable cars offer an easy outing when rain interrupts a walk, and you can hop off near different parts of the city.

Crowds and local tips

March is wetter and less sunny than the months from April to November, which are La Paz's better-weather stretch. You'll usually find fewer visitors than in the dry-season months, and accommodation may cost less. Carnival or Holy Week can bring a local rush, though, depending on their dates.

Keep your plans flexible: rain is common, and the city can feel grey for much of the day. For a warm stop, try api, a hot purple-corn drink, with a salteña pastry near Plaza Murillo. It's a welcome break before heading back out into the damp.
