November to April: the comfortable months
This is the best stretch to visit. November and March feel mild, with highs of 26°C and 25°C. December to February is cooler, with highs around 18–20°C and lows of 10–12°C. You'll want a jacket in the evening, especially near the water.
Days are pleasant for walking the Kuwait Towers area and the Corniche, the seafront promenade. You can also wander Souq Al-Mubarakiya, the old market, where you can try machboos (spiced rice with meat or fish) and strong cardamom tea. Rain is rare and light, though a short winter shower can leave streets puddled. Sunshine is shorter in winter, around 7 hours a day.
Kuwait's National Day (25 February) and Liberation Day (26 February) fall in the middle of this window. Expect flags, lights and busy roads around Gulf Road. Hotels are mostly quiet outside these days, so this is the easy time to book. Travelling with kids? February and March are the best months for outdoor spots like Failaka Island by ferry.
May and October: the shoulder months
May hits 36°C, and October is easier at 34°C. Both are dry, with plenty of sun. Afternoons are hot, so plan museums for midday. The Tareq Rajab Museum and the Kuwait National Museum are good choices. Save the waterfront for after sunset.
October is the better pick of the two. Nights are warm but not heavy, and the long summer is finally over. If you want fewer visitors and don't mind heat, this is a fair compromise.
June to September: the heat
Be honest with yourself here. July and August are the hottest months, tied at 42°C, with lows of 32°C. June is close behind at 41°C, and September stays hot at 40°C. Rain doesn't fall at all. The sun is out for 13 to 14 hours in midsummer, and the air is dry, so the heat feels like an oven.
Most people head indoors. Malls like The Avenues and 360 Mall become the main hangouts, and life shifts to late evening. Summer is also when many residents travel abroad, so the city feels quieter and some places keep shorter hours. Hotel rates are usually lower. If you come, think air-conditioned trips and night walks, not sightseeing on foot.
Ramadan moves earlier each year. It changes daily rhythm, with many cafés closed by day and lively nights. Check the dates before you choose a month.
