When to visit Kuwait

One city, one climate

Kuwait is small and flat, and Kuwait City is the only place on our site. You won't have to juggle regions here. Most trips are in the city, with maybe a day out to Failaka Island by ferry or a drive to the desert camps at Al Wafra or Kabd.

So timing comes down to one thing: heat. The best months are November to March. Days are mild, and you can walk the Corniche or wander the Mubarakiya souq (the old covered market) without feeling worn out.

Seasons in plain terms

Summer is long and fierce. August is the hottest month, at 42°C. Afternoons feel like standing in front of an oven, and locals go from air-conditioned car to air-conditioned mall. If you come then, plan outdoor time for after sunset and spend the day in places like the Kuwait National Museum or the Scientific Center.

Winter is the sweet spot. Evenings can turn properly cool, especially in the desert, so a jacket makes sense for a night at a camp. Rain is rare. January is the wettest month, but it only gets 9 mm, so expect a few grey, damp days at most. Heavy downpours can still flood roads quickly, since the city isn't built for them.

Spring and autumn are short. They're pleasant at the edges of the best window, but the heat builds fast after March.

Holidays and crowds

High season is the cool winter, though Kuwait isn't a mass-tourism stop. You'll see more visitors than in summer, but nothing like a beach resort.

Dates for Ramadan, Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha move earlier each year, so check the Islamic calendar. In Ramadan, people fast in daylight. Eating and drinking in public is discouraged, and many cafés open only after sunset. Nights are lively, though, with late meals and busy souqs. Eid brings a few days of closures and family gatherings.

Kuwait's National Day (25 February) and Liberation Day (26 February) fall in the good-weather window. Expect flags, lights and street celebrations. Hotels can be busier then, so it's a great time to come if you like the buzz.
