December feels hot, sticky and often cloudy in Kuta. Rain falls on most days, with heavy showers that can interrupt beach time and leave streets wet. You'll still get warm spells, but there's little reliable sunshine for a full day outdoors.

Kuta Beach can work for a short walk or a surf when conditions allow. Keep flexible plans: browse Beachwalk shopping centre or stop for a meal when rain sets in. Long beach days and inland sightseeing are harder to count on.

Christmas and New Year

Christmas and New Year bring a festive feel to Kuta, with celebrations at hotels, restaurants and beach clubs. The holiday period is a popular time to visit Bali, so Kuta gets crowded and accommodation prices tend to rise compared with quieter months.

If you hate crowds, avoid the busiest holiday stretch and consider visiting in November instead. It's still rainy, but rainfall is much lower than in December.

Getting around

Rain can slow traffic on Kuta's busy roads, especially around the airport and Jalan Raya Kuta. Allow extra time if you're heading to Ngurah Rai International Airport, particularly around New Year.

Travelling with kids? Beachwalk is close to Kuta Beach, so you can duck inside when a downpour starts without losing the whole outing. And if you're craving nasi campur, a mixed rice meal, Kuta's local warungs make a handy stop between showers. December isn't the best month for dependable beach weather, but it can suit you if you're happy to mix indoor breaks with short trips outside.
