October: warm days, cooler evenings

October feels like a step out of Jaipur's rainy season, but it's still warm. Afternoons can reach 33°C, while evenings cool to around 19°C. Rain is scarce compared with September, so you're less likely to lose sightseeing time to showers.

Amber Fort, Hawa Mahal and the City Palace are easier to enjoy in the drier weather. Save outdoor wandering for the morning or later afternoon; the midday sun can make the fort's slopes feel tiring. For families with young children, a shorter visit to Amber Fort can be easier than a long afternoon in the heat.

Festivals and busy streets

Navratri, a Hindu festival celebrated over nine nights, may fall in October. Dussehra, which marks the victory of good over evil, also sometimes lands this month. Their dates follow the Hindu calendar, so the celebrations shift from year to year. Diwali can fall in October too, though it often arrives in November.

October brings more visitors than the rainy weeks of September, as the winter travel season gets closer. It's usually less crowded than November to February, Jaipur's most popular stretch, but demand can start to rise. Prices may climb as the cooler months approach.

A useful Jaipur tip

At Amber Fort, the climb from the entrance is exposed to the sun. Take an auto-rickshaw from Jaipur to the fort, then keep the steep walk short during the warmest part of the day. Afterward, stop by Jal Mahal for a view of the palace on Man Sagar Lake.

If you're a budget traveller, October can offer a quieter feel than peak winter, though you may trade cooler sightseeing weather for warmer afternoons.
