October weather

October feels like the start of a more comfortable season, but afternoons are still hot. Highs reach 33°C, while evenings cool to around 20°C. The sun is strong, and rain is limited to about two days, so outdoor sightseeing is usually easier than in September.

You can explore the Chambal Garden or visit the Seven Wonders Park, but save longer walks for the cooler parts of the day. Skip strenuous hikes or long stretches in the open during the afternoon heat. Compared with November, October is hotter and a little wetter; December and January are the best months overall.

Dussehra in Kota

October often brings Kota's famous Dussehra Mela, a large fair held around Dussehra at the Dussehra Ground. Expect food stalls, rides and crowds, especially when the main celebrations are on. Dussehra follows the Hindu calendar, so its date can shift; Diwali may also fall in October or November.

If you hate crowds, visit the fair on a quieter evening rather than during the main Dussehra celebrations.

Crowds and local tips

Outside the fair, October is generally less crowded than Kota's peak winter months, December and January. Prices are often lower than in that busy season, though demand can rise around Dussehra.

For the fair, use an auto-rickshaw to reach the Dussehra Ground and agree on the fare before you set off. The area can get congested during celebrations, so ask to be dropped a short walk away instead of getting stuck near the entrance.
