May heat in Jaipur

May is Jaipur's hottest month in the data, with daytime highs around 41°C and nights still warm. The air is usually dry, but brief rain can fall on a few days. Sightseeing can feel draining by midday, especially around open stone courtyards and forts.

You'll have a better time at indoor sights such as the City Palace, or with a short visit to Hawa Mahal before the afternoon heat builds. Save longer walks for cooler hours, and avoid a midday climb around Amber Fort.

Events and quieter streets

Buddha Purnima sometimes falls in May, though its date changes each year. It's a public holiday in India, but it isn't a major Jaipur festival on the scale of the city's winter events. School summer holidays also begin around this season, so local family travel may pick up even as the heat keeps many visitors away.

For people who dislike crowds, May can feel calmer than Jaipur's popular November-to-February season. You'll often find fewer tourists at major sights, and hotel rates are generally lower than in those cooler months. The trade-off is real: some days may be too hot for a full sightseeing schedule.

Make the heat easier

Plan a short Amber Fort visit for the morning, before the stone paths and courtyards get fiercely hot. If you're taking a taxi from central Jaipur, ask to be dropped near the fort entrance rather than adding a long walk uphill.

A cool stop on MI Road can break up the day; the area is known for lassi, a chilled yoghurt drink. Keep your plans flexible when a shower comes through, but don't expect rain to cool the city for long.
