Mild days on the Rock

April feels pleasantly mild in Gibraltar, with daytime highs around 19°C and cooler evenings. Rain can interrupt plans, but showers tend to leave plenty of time for exploring. The month gets less rain than March, though it's wetter than May.

It's a good time to walk around the old town, see the Moorish Castle and take in the views from the Upper Rock. The Mediterranean Steps are rewarding on a clear day, but wet paths can make the steep climb less comfortable. Save a beach afternoon for a dry spell rather than counting on a full run of sunny days.

Easter and spring crowds

If Easter falls in April, you may see Holy Week processions through Gibraltar's streets. The dates change each year, so April isn't always Easter month.

If you hate crowds, avoid the Easter weekend around Main Street and Casemates Square. Outside the holiday, April is usually calmer than the peak summer months. Prices can also be gentler than in summer, though Easter breaks may bring a short-lived rise in demand.

A tip for Upper Rock

Travelling with kids? Take the cable car up to the Upper Rock instead of making the steep walk from town. You'll still have walking to do once you're there, especially around the Apes' Den, where Gibraltar's famous macaques gather. Keep food tucked away and don't feed them.

Cloud can roll across the Rock and hide the views, so enjoy the old town or the Gibraltar Museum when the summit looks murky. On a clear day, the long spring daylight gives you time to explore both the Rock and the waterfront without rushing.
