February weather on the Rock

February feels mild by day, but damp spells and cloud can interrupt your plans. Highs reach 16°C and lows sit around 12°C. Rain falls on about nine days, so you may get a wet afternoon between brighter spells.

On clearer days, explore the Upper Rock Nature Reserve or walk around the old town's Main Street. Cloud can hide the views from the Rock, and wet paths make steep walks less pleasant. Keep a flexible plan for the day rather than relying on a long hike.

Carnival and quieter streets

Gibraltar Carnival often takes place in February, with lively events including a street parade. Dates change each year, so check the local programme before you travel. The celebration brings extra crowds to town on event days.

Outside Carnival, February is winter and usually quieter than the busy summer months. You'll generally find fewer visitors around Casemates Square and Main Street, and accommodation can cost less than in peak season.

If you hate crowds, choose a non-Carnival week for a calmer visit.

Make the most of a changeable day

The weather suits a city break more than a beach-focused trip. Browse the Gibraltar Museum, then find lunch around Irish Town; rainy spells are easier to work around in town than on exposed Rock paths.

For the Upper Rock, check whether the cable car is running before you set off. Wind or poor weather can affect service, and you don't want to reach the cable-car station only to change your plans. If conditions turn, explore the Great Siege Tunnels instead. They're a named local sight with shelter from the rain.
