June feels mild rather than reliably sunny. Afternoons can reach 19°C, but showers fall on many days and cloud often hangs over the city. Long daylight gives you plenty of time to wander the Latin Quarter or follow the riverside path to the Claddagh. A wet spell can make a Connemara hike less appealing, so keep Galway's cafés and the City Museum in mind.

If you're here for beaches, Silverstrand is still worth a look, but don't count on a warm day for swimming.

June brings Bloomsday on June 16, when people celebrate James Joyce's writing around Ireland. Galway's literary connections make it a fitting time to browse bookshops near Shop Street, though the main celebrations are in Dublin. The June bank holiday can also draw visitors for a long weekend.

There's no guarantee of a major festival during your visit. Galway's biggest arts and film events tend to come later in summer, so check the dates before building your trip around one.

Crowds and local tips

June is the start of the busy season. You'll usually find more visitors and higher room prices than in winter or spring, but it's often calmer than July and August. If you hate crowds, visit the Spanish Arch in the morning, before tour groups gather along the waterfront.
