June feels warm and sunny, with comfortable evenings and little rain. The average high is 25°C, and rain falls on just two days. That makes it a good month for wandering Faro's Old Town, stopping for lunch outdoors, or taking a boat into the Ria Formosa.

There's plenty of daylight for sightseeing, but the midday sun can feel strong on the open streets. Save a long walk around the walled centre for later in the day. The beach is a good option, too; take a ferry from Faro to Ilha Deserta for a quieter stretch of sand. May is cooler and wetter, while July is hotter and almost rain-free.

Events and summer crowds

Portugal Day falls on June 10, and Faro marks its city day on June 7. You may find local ceremonies and events around the city, though the programme can vary. June also brings celebrations for popular saints across Portugal, with music, food and street gatherings.

If you hate crowds, June is a useful middle ground. Faro is busier than in spring, as summer visitors arrive, but it's generally less crowded than July and August. Prices tend to rise as summer gets going, though June is usually less costly than the peak holiday months.

For a practical local tip, check which boat route leaves from Faro Marina before heading to the islands. Ilha Deserta is reached by boat, not by road, so allow time for the return crossing. Back in town, try cataplana, a seafood stew often served in a copper pot, at a restaurant near the marina. That makes a lovely end to a sunny day.
