Dubrovnik Weather in May

May feels mild

Dubrovnik is warm and sunny in May, but it's not summer-hot. Afternoons suit a walk around the Old Town, while the evening air feels cooler by the harbour. Rain is still possible, so a wet spell can interrupt plans.

You'll have long days for sightseeing, and the sea views from the City Walls are lovely in clear weather. Swimming may feel chilly, and May isn't the best month to plan every day around the beach. April is cooler and wetter; June is warmer and drier.

What to do and when

May Day, on May 1, is a public holiday in Croatia. Some shops and services may close or run limited hours. Croatia's Statehood Day is also observed on May 30. Dubrovnik's best-known annual celebration, the Feast of St Blaise, takes place in February, not May.

If you hate crowds, May is a good middle ground: it's busier than the quieter spring months, but generally less packed than June to August. You can expect more visitors as the month goes on, so the Old Town's narrow lanes may feel busy around midday. Prices are usually below peak summer levels, though they can rise as summer approaches.

A useful Old Town tip

Walk the City Walls earlier in the day, before the sun warms the stone and tour groups fill the route. You'll get views over the terracotta rooftops and the harbour, then can duck into a café on Stradun, the Old Town's main street, when rain rolls through.
