October: mild days, cool evenings

October is a comfortable month for walking around Chișinău. Days reach about 17°C, but evenings can feel chilly, so outdoor cafés are better for lunch than dinner. Rain falls on around six days, and clouds often soften the light. You can explore the city centre, browse the National Museum of History, or take a day trip to the Cricova wine cellars.

Long outdoor plans are less reliable than in September. Skip a full day at a park or vineyard if rain is due, and keep an indoor stop in mind.

Wine and city celebrations

National Wine Day usually brings tastings and music to central Chișinău in early October. It's a good chance to try local wines, but the festival draws crowds around the centre. Chișinău's City Day is also held on October 14, with celebrations and events around town.

If you hate crowds, visit the main sights on a weekday and save the festival atmosphere for an evening stroll.

A quieter autumn visit

October is quieter than September, one of Chișinău's best months, and the main summer travel period. You'll usually find fewer visitors at central sights, while demand for stays tends to ease after the busy season. It's a good fit if you'd rather explore at an unhurried pace than join a packed tasting.

For a local food stop, head to Piața Centrală, the city's central market, and look for plăcinte: filled pastries often sold with cheese or pumpkin. Go earlier in the day, when market stalls are at their liveliest. Cooler weather makes browsing more comfortable than during September's warmer afternoons.
