May is one of the best months to visit Chengtangcun, and the weather is excellent for it. Afternoons are warm, with highs around 29°C, and nights cool down to about 14°C. Rain comes on seven days, but it rarely ruins a whole trip. Days are long, at nearly fourteen hours of daylight, so there's plenty of time for walks through the village and the Shandong countryside around it.

That said, April is almost as good, and it's a little drier. May gets noticeably more rain than April, so muddy rural paths can make longer walks less pleasant. June is hotter and wetter still, which is why May is the better bet of the two. If you're deciding between them, May gives you more sunshine and warmth without June's heavy rain.
