Best Time to Visit Campinas

Two seasons: wet summer, dry winter

Campinas has a clear split. From about November to March it's warm, muggy and wet. January is the wettest month, with rain on most days. Storms usually build in the afternoon, so mornings can still be pleasant. Skies stay grey and heavy, and the sun shows up for less than four hours a day in January.

From April to September it's drier and clearer. Days are mild, nights get properly cool, and the air feels lighter. October is the in-between month. Heat returns, but so do the showers.

Best months for different trips

July and August score best. August is the driest month and the sunniest, with crisp mornings and blue afternoons. It's a good time for walking around the Cambuí neighbourhood, wandering the Bosque dos Jequitibás park, or eating your way through the Mercado Municipal. Nights in July dip to about 12°C, so bring a jacket for evenings out.

Want warmth without the rain? Try September. It's among the warmest months, with highs around 30°C, and it's still fairly dry. April and May are also a good fit. The summer rain has eased, and the weather is gentle for day trips to nearby towns like Holambra, famous for its flowers, or Valinhos, known for fruit farms.

If you're coming for work, you'll likely get what you get. Campinas is a business and university city, home to Unicamp, so it doesn't empty out in the wet months. In January and February, though, plan indoor stops, like museums and cafés, for the afternoons.

Crowds and events

Campinas isn't a beach town, so it has no big tourist high season. Hotels fill more with business trips than holidays, and midweek is often busier than weekends. School holidays in July and January send some locals off to the coast, so the city can feel quieter then.

Holambra's Expoflora is the big regional draw. It usually runs through September, when the flower fields are at their best, and it's an easy day trip. That's another point in favour of September. Winter weekends are also good for the city's street markets and open-air feiras (local fairs), which are far more pleasant when it isn't pouring.
