September feels warm and springlike in Campinas, with sunny stretches and some rain. Afternoons can reach 30°C, while evenings cool to around 15°C. Rain falls on about eight days, so showers can interrupt outdoor plans without taking over the month.

You can enjoy a walk around Lagoa do Taquaral or visit the historic station at Estação Cultura. Save longer outdoor plans for dry spells, and have a museum or café in Cambuí in mind for a rainy afternoon. It's less reliably dry than August, but October gets wetter.

Events and crowds

Brazil's Independence Day falls on September 7, a public holiday. Some services and shops may close, so check locally if you're relying on them. September is also a good time to visit Expoflora in nearby Holambra, a flower show that draws visitors from across the region. Expect more traffic on event days, especially on the road between Campinas and Holambra.

If you hate crowds, avoid visiting Holambra on a weekend during Expoflora.

What to expect

Campinas is usually calmer than during major school-holiday periods in July. September sits between the cooler, drier months and the wetter start of summer, so it can be a reasonable time for a city break. Prices aren't guaranteed to be lower, though; the Independence Day holiday and Expoflora can make some weekends busier.

For an easy local outing, take the bus to Lagoa do Taquaral and walk its paths around the lake. It's a popular spot with Campinas residents, and the open space works well on a sunny morning. If rain rolls in, head back towards Cambuí for a coffee instead.
