Winter and spring: the easy months

From November to June, Cabo is dry and mostly sunny. December to March feels mild, with warm afternoons and cool evenings. A light jacket is enough for dinner on the Marina. By May and June it's properly hot, but the air still feels fairly dry and the sea is warm.

This is also when gray whales and humpbacks pass the tip of Baja. Whale-watching boats run from about December to April. Out on the water, wind can make it feel cooler than town, so you'll want a windbreaker.

Want beach days without much planning? Pick April or May. You'll get almost no rain and long, bright days. Medano Beach is lively and good for swimming. Playa del Amor, reached by water taxi from the harbour, is a nice short trip.

Summer and early autumn: hot and stormy

July is hot and humid, but still mostly dry. August is where things change. Rain falls on about eight days, and September is the wettest month, with around 99 mm over ten days. Showers tend to be short and heavy. Hurricane season runs through autumn, and Baja's southern tip can be hit, so check forecasts and travel insurance terms.

The upside is quiet streets and lower hotel rates. It's also warm enough that the sea feels like a bath. Snorkelling at Santa Maria Bay or Chileno Bay is great when it's calm. If you can't stand sticky nights, skip August and September.

October is a good surprise. Rain drops to 38 mm, the sun is back, and the sea is still warm. Fishing is strong in autumn too, and the Los Cabos tournaments bring anglers to the marina.

Crowds and events

High season runs from about November to April. Expect busy beaches and full flights, especially at Christmas, New Year and US spring break in March. Easter week (Semana Santa) brings Mexican families too. Late May and June are a sweet spot: still dry, but calmer.

Look out for the Los Cabos Open of Golf-style events and big fishing tournaments, which fill the marina in autumn, and the Día de los Muertos altars in early November. Whale season peaks in January and February.
