Best Time to Visit Leon de los Aldama

Dry season: November to April

This is the easy part of the year. Days are sunny and dry, and nights get properly cool, especially in December and January when lows drop to around 7–8°C. You'll want a jacket for dinner, not for the day. By April it's warmer, with highs of 31°C and very little rain.

It suits almost any trip. You can wander the Centro Histórico and the Plaza Principal without dodging showers. The Templo Expiatorio, with its tall neo-Gothic spires, looks best in clear light. Leon is also Mexico's leather and shoe capital, so shopping on Calle Obregón is comfortable in any dry month. Travelling with kids? Parque Explora, the science museum, works well here, and so does the Zoológico de León.

May to October: warm, then wet

May is the hottest month, at 32°C, and the rain hasn't really started. It's a good in-between choice if you like heat and thin crowds. From June to September the rain settles in. July is the wettest, with rain on 25 days, though that mostly means afternoon downpours rather than all-day grey. August comes close behind.

Honestly, these months suit you if you're after cheaper rooms and don't mind plans changing. Do museums and markets in the afternoon, and save outdoor time for mornings. September still feels damp, but October is a real turnaround. Rain drops off and the air stays soft and green.

Events and crowds

The biggest draw is the Festival Internacional del Globo, a hot-air balloon festival held every November. Colourful balloons fill the sky over Parque Metropolitano, and it's the busiest time in town. Hotels fill up, so it's a poor pick if you hate crowds. It also falls in one of the best weather windows.

Business travel is steady all year because of the trade fairs for footwear and leather. Midweek hotels can be pricey even in the rainy months. Mexican school holidays bring family crowds around Semana Santa (Holy Week, before Easter), and again in late December. If you want comfortable weather without the rush, aim for late January, February or early March. You'll get sunny days, cool mornings and plenty of room on the plaza.
