January weather in León

January is one of the easiest months for exploring León. Afternoons reach about 23°C, while nights can fall to 7°C, so the day feels mild and evenings get chilly. Rain is scarce, with only about two rainy days in the month.

That dry, sunny weather suits walks around the historic centre, including the Templo Expiatorio and Plaza Fundadores. You can also spend an afternoon at the Arco de la Calzada without worrying much about rain. Save long outdoor plans for daylight; after sunset, the temperature drops quickly.

Feria and Three Kings' Day

The Feria Estatal de León usually takes place in January, though its dates change. It brings rides, food stalls and shows to the fairgrounds near Poliforum León. Expect busier streets and higher demand for rooms while it's on. January 6 is Día de Reyes, or Three Kings' Day, when families share rosca de reyes, a ring-shaped sweet bread.

Crowds and a local tip

January can feel busy around the fair and the New Year holidays, then calmer once those pass. It's still a popular time to visit, as October to March brings some of León's best weather. Compared with quieter months, the Feria period can mean more competition for accommodation; outside it, the city is easier to enjoy at a slower pace.

Travelling with kids? The fair can fill much of a day, but León's shoe-making heritage is worth a quieter stop too. Visit the Museo de Arte e Historia de Guanajuato at Forum Cultural, then head to the nearby fairgrounds. Keep your evening plans close to the centre if you're walking back after the temperature falls.
