Spring days in Bursa

May feels warm and settled in Bursa, with afternoons reaching 24°C and evenings cooling to around 12°C. Rain falls on about eight days, so a shower may interrupt a walk, but it rarely defines the whole visit. With long daylight and plenty of sunshine, you can explore the Grand Mosque, wander the old lanes around Koza Han, or enjoy a meal of İskender kebap outdoors.

April is cooler and a little wetter; June is hotter, with slightly more rain. May is a comfortable middle ground for sightseeing. Skip plans that depend on dry weather all day, especially on the wooded trails above the city, where rain can leave paths slippery.

Holidays and crowds

May 19 is Turkey's Commemoration of Atatürk, Youth and Sports Day. Expect ceremonies and possible changes to opening hours at some public sites. The holiday can also bring more domestic visitors, especially around a long weekend.

If you hate crowds, visit Koza Han on a weekday rather than during a holiday weekend. May is within Bursa's popular spring travel season, so it's livelier than winter, but generally less busy than summer. Prices can be higher than in the quietest months, though May isn't usually the summer peak.

Make the most of Uludağ

Travelling with kids? The cable car to Uludağ makes a fun change from city sightseeing. The mountain is cooler than central Bursa, and May weather can shift, so check conditions before making it the centrepiece of your day.

A useful local tip: take the Bursa Teleferik from Teferrüç, not a taxi up the mountain. You'll get a scenic ride, then can decide whether the conditions suit a walk once you arrive. Don't count on a high-altitude hike if rain has been falling.
