December feels mild compared with much of winter, but it's often damp and changeable. Days reach about 16°C, while rain falls on 12 days on average. You'll get some sun, but showers can interrupt a long walk or a day by the water.

It's a good month for Bodrum Castle, the Museum of Underwater Archaeology, and a slow lunch in the old town. Swimming and beach days are less reliable, and the sea can feel chilly. Skip plans that depend on a full day outdoors; nearby hills can be wet underfoot.

What's on

December isn't a major festival month in Bodrum. You may see local New Year's Eve celebrations around the marina, though the town is quieter than in summer. Christmas isn't a big public holiday in Turkey, so don't expect the whole town to close for it.

Travelling with kids? The Bodrum Maritime Museum and a look around the harbour make easier outings than a long beach day.

Crowds and practical tips

December is low season, with fewer visitors and generally lower accommodation prices than during summer. Some seasonal beach businesses may be closed, and the town has a calmer feel. Even so, Bodrum isn't deserted: locals keep its cafés and shops going.
