April is warm and humid in Basseterre, with highs around 27°C and nights barely cooler. You'll get plenty of sunshine, but clouds and passing showers can break up the day. Rain falls on about nine days, and it's usually manageable rather than a reason to cancel. April ranks among the island's best months, the last of the December-to-April stretch. March is a touch drier and also in that stretch, while May is wetter and falls outside it.

Once you're settled in, there's plenty to see on foot. Independence Square and the Circus are easy to wander, and a sunny afternoon at Frigate Bay is hard to beat. The heat and humidity can make a long climb feel tiring, so save the steep walk up Brimstone Hill for a cooler, less sticky part of the day.

What to do

If Easter falls in April, expect a holiday feel. Good Friday and Easter Monday can bring closures and changed hours, and dates shift each year, so don't assume shops and services will run as usual. There isn't a major annual Basseterre festival to plan around in April, so your days are more open than they might be elsewhere.

Travelling with kids? A short visit to the National Museum of St. Kitts, in the old Treasury Building by the Circus, gives you an indoor break from the midday heat.

Crowds and costs

Because April still sits within the popular December-to-April season, don't expect the quietest streets or the lowest prices. Easter week is the busiest stretch, especially around central Basseterre and Frigate Bay. Once the holiday passes, visitor numbers and accommodation prices may ease, and the island stays appealing before the wetter months arrive.

For a practical stop, head to the stalls at the Circus for a local roti or a cold drink before exploring nearby Independence Square. It's a shaded pause right in the town centre, and you won't have to trek back to your hotel to take it.
