Best Time to Visit Abuja

If you want the most pleasant weather in Abuja, plan your trip for November and December. March is the hottest month, with average highs of 35°C (96°F), while December is the coldest, with lows around 17°C (62°F). The rainy season runs over May to September; August is the wettest month with about 272 mm (10.7 in) of rain. May is the least comfortable month, mainly because of the rain.

November to January: the sweet spot
November is the month to aim for, and December is a close second. The rains have stopped, the sky is clear, and the days are warm without being heavy. Evenings are cooler, especially in December and January, when nights drop to about 17°C. It's good weather for sitting outside with a plate of suya (spiced grilled beef skewers) after dark.
This is also the best window for sightseeing. You can climb Aso Rock's viewpoints, walk around the National Mosque and the National Christian Ecumenical Centre, and spend a whole afternoon at Jabi Lake without checking the sky. Harmattan is a dry, dusty wind from the Sahara that usually arrives around December. It can make the air hazy and dull the views, so don't expect crisp photos every day.
December is the busiest time. Many Nigerians travel home for Christmas and the new year, so flights and hotels fill up. If you hate crowds, pick November.
February to April: hot, then humid
February and March are the hottest months, with highs of 35°C. Afternoons are fierce, so plan outdoor stops for the morning and spend midday in a museum or a shaded café in Wuse or Maitama. The sky is still mostly dry in February, but March brings the first short storms.
By April, the air turns sticky and rain falls on about half the days. It's still doable for a city break. Just keep your schedule loose, since downpours tend to be short and heavy.
May to October: the rainy season
From May to September, it rains almost every day. August is the wettest month, with 272 mm, and also the cloudiest. Roads can flood, traffic slows, and views from Aso Rock often vanish into cloud. October is still wet, though the rain starts easing.
Is there an upside? The hills around the city turn bright green, and hotels are quieter. If you're visiting for business or family and can't choose your dates, this is when you'll want to stay flexible. Keep trips to places like Gurara Falls (a few hours away in Niger State) for drier months, because the roads get rough.
If you can pick any time, go in November. If you can't, December and January are the next best choices.
