If you hate crowds, avoid the main Fiesta del Pilar events and visit Fort Pilar at a quieter time. The festival draws visitors and local crowds, though October is generally less sought-after than February and March, the best months overall.

Getting around

Outside fiesta days, October can feel calmer than peak travel months, and accommodation demand may be lower. Don't assume every rate will be cheaper, though: demand can rise near festival events. The weather is the bigger trade-off, with frequent rain making beach days uncertain.

For a practical local stop, ask about the day's conditions before heading to Paseo del Mar. It's a pleasant waterfront walk near Fort Pilar, but showers can make it less enjoyable. Travelling with kids? Keep the walk short and pair it with the Fort Pilar museum, where you can wait out a downpour.
