December: warm and rainy

December stays warm, with highs around 29°C and lows near 27°C. Rain falls on many days, and the air is humid and often cloudy. You'll get some sunshine, but don't count on a full dry day. For a trip with a better shot at dry weather, February and March are the best months here, with December's rain and grey skies making it a weaker choice.

Even so, there's plenty to do in town. Explore Fort Pilar and the National Museum of the Philippines – Zamboanga, then duck into a café when a shower rolls in. Beach time at Paseo del Mar can work between showers, but if you're planning a long, sun-focused beach stay, this isn't the month for it.

Christmas in the city

Christmas brings lights, church services and family gatherings around Zamboanga. Rizal Day on December 30 is a national holiday, and New Year celebrations follow soon after. Some businesses and services change their hours around the holidays, so plan ahead.

Crowds are the other thing to expect. December is generally busier for local travel than February and March, and demand can push up fares and room prices, especially around Christmas and New Year. If you'd rather avoid the rush, steer clear of the busiest holiday days.

Make room for rain

Travelling with kids? Keep your plans flexible, with Fort Pilar or the city museum as a rainy-day backup. With 23 rainy days, a shower is a real possibility on most days, so leave time between plans rather than stacking beach trips and outdoor visits tightly together.

When the rain eases, try curacha, a large sea crab often served with a rich sauce. Paseo del Mar is a handy place to find it, and its waterfront makes a good evening outing. Check transport and opening hours locally during the holiday period, since schedules can change.
