June: long, changeable days

June feels like a proper start to summer in Yekaterinburg. Afternoons can reach 20°C, but evenings drop to around 10°C. Rain falls often, and cloud can spoil some of that long daylight. You'll get good stretches for walking, but keep indoor stops in mind when showers roll through.

The city's compact centre suits a day on foot: see the Church on the Blood, then duck into a café if the weather turns. The Ural Music Night festival usually brings free performances to venues across the city in June. Russia Day, on June 12, is a public holiday, with celebrations in many cities.

What to do, and when

For families, the long evenings make a relaxed walk along the Iset River easy to fit in after dinner. Skip making a full day depend on a dry hike; frequent rain can leave trails muddy, and the sky is often cloudy.

June is busier than the colder months, though July and August are the more popular summer picks. Expect more visitors around the music festival and Russia Day, but June isn't the peak of the season. Prices may rise around those events compared with quieter winter periods.

If rain catches you near Plotinka, the dam at the heart of the city, head to the Yeltsin Center nearby. Its museum offers a useful indoor break, and you can return to the embankment when the showers ease. Keep an eye on the Iset: after rain, the riverfront can feel damp and chilly even when the day was mild.
