February is warm and fairly humid in Trujillo, with highs around 27°C and evenings near 17°C. Rain falls on some days, but it usually won't stop a day of sightseeing. Cloudy skies are common, so expect a mix of bright spells and softer light.

You can explore Chan Chan or the historic centre between showers, then head to Huanchaco for seafood and a walk along the shore. The sea can be rough, so don't count on calm swimming every day. Long hikes in the midday heat may feel tiring; keep your outdoor plans flexible.

Carnival and summer

February brings summer holiday energy to the coast. Huanchaco's Carnaval is a local highlight, with parades, music and celebrations around the beach town. Dates and events can vary, so check the programme once you know your travel dates.

If you hate crowds, spend the liveliest festival hours away from Huanchaco's seafront. Trujillo is in its high season from November to February, so beach areas and popular restaurants can feel busier, and prices may be higher than in quieter months.

Getting around

February is still a good month for a mix of city sights and coastal time. Rain is lower than in March, though January is a little wetter, so a brief shower is possible either way. Carry a small umbrella for walks around Plaza de Armas, and use a taxi between the centre and Chan Chan if rain makes the ground muddy.
