Visiting Toronto in February
February feels like winter
Toronto in February is cold, grey and often damp. Temperatures hover around freezing, and rain or wet snow can turn sidewalks slushy. With little sunshine, long walks along the waterfront may feel chilly, especially when wind comes off Lake Ontario.
You'll have a better time mixing outdoor stops with indoor ones. Skate at Nathan Phillips Square, then warm up inside the Art Gallery of Ontario or the Royal Ontario Museum. Save a long stroll through High Park for a brighter, milder day.
Events and indoor plans
Winterlicious brings special menus to restaurants across the city, so it's a good time to try Toronto dining without summer crowds. February is also Black History Month, with events and exhibits around the city. Family Day, a public holiday, often means family-friendly activities and busier attractions.
Families who enjoy skating can make Nathan Phillips Square part of a short outing, rather than a full day outdoors.
Quieter streets, lower-season feel
February is generally quieter than summer, when patios, festivals and waterfront spots draw more visitors. You'll often find fewer crowds at major sights, and accommodation can be less costly than in peak summer months. Family Day and popular Winterlicious restaurants are exceptions, so central spots may feel busier then.
For an easy warm-up, use the PATH, Toronto's underground walkway network, to get between downtown buildings. It can help you reach places near Union Station without spending as long outside in slush. Check the route before setting off: the network has many turns, and not every entrance is open at all times.
