Suva is warm in September, with sticky air and frequent showers. Expect cloudy spells and around four hours of sun a day; rain falls on about half the days. It's wetter than August, but usually less wet than October.

The Fiji Museum and Suva Municipal Market work well between showers. At Colo-i-Suva Forest Park, rain can make paths muddy, so skip longer walks after heavy showers. If you hate crowds, September is calmer than the July and August peak.

What to do

September 7 is Fiji Constitution Day, a national holiday. You may see local events, and some shops or services may close or keep shorter hours. Suva's waterfront and Albert Park are good places to take in the city, especially when the skies clear.

Travelling with kids? The Fiji Museum offers an easy indoor stop near Thurston Gardens, which can be a pleasant place to wander when the rain lets up.

Crowds and practical tips

Suva is a working capital, not a beach resort, so September doesn't bring the same holiday crowds as Nadi's coast. It's generally quieter than July and August, the best-weather months, and prices in town are less tied to resort high season.

For Colo-i-Suva, take a taxi from central Suva and ask the driver to wait or agree on a return pickup. Public transport doesn't take you right to the forest trails. After a wet spell, stick to the shorter paths and enjoy the pools only if conditions look safe.
