April: thaw, clouds and cold

April feels like winter loosening its grip, not proper spring. The high reaches 8°C, but nights can still touch 0°C. Expect damp air, cloudy skies and rain on plenty of days. The longer daylight helps, though it can still feel chilly beside the Neva.

Events and Easter

If you hate crowds, April is calmer than the busy summer months. It's shoulder season, so accommodation is often less costly than in May to September, though exact prices vary. May brings warmer weather, but also more visitors.
