December weather in town

December feels warm and sticky in Saint George's, with little change between day and night. Rain falls on many days, often as passing showers, so you may need to pause under an awning near the Carenage, the town's waterfront harbour. The sun still comes out, and the sea stays inviting.

It's a good month for a relaxed town visit, a swim at Grand Anse Beach, or a scenic ride on the water taxi between the beach and town. Showers can interrupt a beach day, though, and muddy paths make longer hikes less appealing. If hiking is your priority, don't make December your main bet.

Christmas and the crowds

Christmas brings church services, carols and family celebrations across Grenada. Saint George's has a festive feel, but it's not known for a major December festival on the scale of Carnival. You can still enjoy seasonal meals; oil down, Grenada's national stew, is worth seeking out.

If you hate crowds, avoid the busiest holiday period around Christmas and New Year. December is the start of the high season, so visitor numbers and accommodation prices tend to rise compared with the wetter months. The first part of the month is usually a calmer choice. February to April is generally better for weather, but December offers a warm-weather break while much of Europe and North America is cold.

A useful local tip

Take the water taxi from Grand Anse to the Carenage for a simple, scenic way to reach central Saint George's. It saves you from relying on the road between the beach and town, and gives you a harbour view on the way in.

Keep Fort George for a spell of clearer weather. Its hilltop views take in the harbour, but the climb and open lookout feel less pleasant in a shower or strong sun. A covered stop around the Carenage makes an easy backup.
