July: monsoon heat

July is hot, sticky and often rainy. Daytime highs reach 36°C, with nights staying warm at 26°C. Rain falls on 21 days, and cloud can make the day feel close even when showers ease. June is hotter and drier; August is a little cooler, but still wet.

You can visit covered sights such as the Pakistan Army Museum or browse Raja Bazaar between showers. Keep outdoor sightseeing flexible: heavy rain can make walking around the old city unpleasant, and low-lying streets may flood. Long hikes and open-air plans are less comfortable in the heat and humidity.

Events and crowds

Muharram sometimes falls in July, though its dates shift each year. If it does, Ashura processions and gatherings bring solemn observances and road closures in Rawalpindi. Check local notices before travelling through central areas, especially around Raja Bazaar.

If you hate crowds, July may suit you better than the popular November-to-January travel season. Summer school holidays still bring local families out, and traffic toward Murree can build. Visitor demand in Rawalpindi is generally lower than in the best months, so stays may cost less, but prices vary.

Making the most of it

Travelling with kids? Keep outdoor stops short, and use a museum or café break when rain sets in. Saddar's shops and food spots make a useful change of pace from the old city.
