Puxi Weather in April

April feels mild

Puxi is pleasant for walking in April, with daytime highs around 21°C and cooler evenings near 11°C. Spring suits long strolls along the Bund or through the leafy Former French Concession. You can pause in a café when clouds gather, then head back out when the rain eases.

Rain falls on about 11 days, and the sky is often cloudy. Showers can interrupt a full day outdoors, so don't make every plan depend on a dry walk. The weather is less suited to sitting outside all day than the mild temperatures might suggest.

Qingming and spring crowds

Qingming, the Tomb-Sweeping holiday, falls in early April, though its date changes each year. Families visit cemeteries to honour relatives, and travel can get busy around the holiday. Puxi's main sights also draw visitors during spring, but April is usually less crowded than October, one of Shanghai's most popular months.

Prices aren't at their quiet-season low. Expect more pressure around Qingming, while the rest of April is generally a more manageable time to visit than the October peak.

Make room for rain

If you hate crowds, visit the Bund on a weekday rather than during Qingming. April's mild weather works well for linking the Bund with nearby Nanjing Road, but rain can make a long riverside walk less appealing. Keep an indoor stop in mind, such as the Shanghai Natural History Museum in Jing'an Sculpture Park.

Travelling with kids? Take Metro Line 10 to Yuyuan Garden instead of relying on a long walk through the Old City. The station is close to the garden, and you can duck into a tea house if showers arrive. Try xiaolongbao, soup-filled dumplings, nearby; queues can build at popular Old City shops.
