Pune Weather in May

May: hot and mostly dry

May is Pune's hottest month, tied with April for the highest daytime temperatures. Afternoons feel scorching, while evenings are warmer and easier to enjoy. Rain is still limited, so you're unlikely to lose many sightseeing days to showers.

The heat makes outdoor plans tiring by midday. Visit Shaniwar Wada or the Aga Khan Palace in the morning, then take a long break indoors during the afternoon. Save a walk around Koregaon Park or dinner in Deccan for later. Skip exposed hill walks such as Vetal Tekdi in the heat of the day.

Events and quieter streets

Maharashtra Day falls on May 1, with official events and local celebrations. Buddha Purnima may also fall in May, though its date changes each year. These aren't reasons to expect a packed city: May is generally quieter than Pune's best-weather months, November to January.

If you hate crowds, May can suit you, especially for popular sights. Hotels may cost less than in the cooler high season, though prices vary. The trade-off is that the heat can make a full day of sightseeing feel like hard work.

Travelling with kids? Keep outdoor visits short and build in a cool indoor break. Pune's afternoon sun is strong, even before the heavier monsoon rain arrives in June.
