July feels warm from morning to evening, with highs around 29°C and lows near 28°C. Humidity is high, and rain falls on about 14 days, though showers don't usually take up the whole day. You'll still get plenty of sun for a swim at Great Bay or a slow stroll along the Philipsburg Boardwalk.

The sticky air can make long walks along Front Street tiring. Keep outdoor sightseeing flexible, and duck into the Yoda Guy Movie Exhibit or a café if a shower rolls through. July is wetter than June, but not as wet as August.

July events

July 1 is Emancipation Day, marking the end of slavery in Sint Maarten. It's a meaningful local holiday, and you may see community events and celebrations around the island. Across the border in French-side Marigot, Bastille Day falls on July 14, with local festivities.

If you hate crowds, July is usually a calmer time than the busy December-to-April season. Philipsburg can still fill up when cruise ships are in port, especially near the shops and Great Bay. Hotels and flights are often less costly than in peak months, though prices vary.

Making the most of it

July is a good fit if you want beach time without peak-season crowds and don't mind warm, showery weather. Boat trips and snorkelling can work well between showers. Save a long, exposed walk for a clearer spell, and don't count on every afternoon staying dry.

Travelling with kids? The Boardwalk is handy for a short seaside stroll, with places to pause for a snack. One local tip: cruise passengers often use the route between the port and Front Street, so head toward the Boardwalk for a quieter walk beside Great Bay. You can still reach the shops easily when the port area thins out.
