February feels warm and fairly steady in Philipsburg. Days reach about 26°C, with mild nights, plenty of sun and little rain. You can wander Front Street, stop at the shops, then cool off with a swim at Great Bay Beach. It's also a good month for a boat trip or a day on the water.

Rain falls on just a few days, but sticky air can make a long walk uphill feel tiring. Save a full day of inland exploring for a cooler, cloudier spell.

Events and crowds

February is part of Sint Maarten's busy winter season, and the island's popular beaches and cruise-port shops can feel crowded when ships are in. Hotels and flights often cost more than in the quieter summer months. The island's main Carnival celebrations are usually held later in the year, so don't expect Philipsburg to be in full Carnival mode.

If you hate crowds, head to Great Bay Beach after cruise passengers have returned to their ships, or explore Front Street on a quieter port day.

Make the most of your visit

With February's sunny weather, you can spend time outside without having to dodge frequent showers. Take the water taxi from the cruise terminal to the Philipsburg boardwalk; it's an easy way to reach the beach and avoid a hot walk along the road. For lunch, try Johnny cakes, a local fried bread often served with saltfish.

The sea breeze can make the beach feel cooler than the town streets. Keep that in mind if you're planning to swim or sit by the water for a while.
