Pattaya Weather in May

May feels hot and wet

May is sticky, cloudy and often rainy in Pattaya. The table records rain on 24 days, with little daily sunshine. Evenings stay warm, so don't count on much relief after dark.

You can still enjoy meals around Naklua or browse the air-conditioned shops at Terminal 21 Pattaya. The Sanctuary of Truth works for a culture stop, though its huge carved structure is mostly open-sided. Keep beach time flexible, and avoid making a boat trip to Koh Larn the one fixed plan of your day. Rain can disrupt time on the water.

Holidays and local plans

May includes Thailand's Labour Day and Coronation Day, while Visakha Bucha, an important Buddhist holiday, can also fall in May. Its date changes each year. On Buddhist holidays, some bars may stop serving alcohol, so nightlife plans can feel quieter.

Pattaya's famous Wan Lai water celebrations happen in April, not May. Don't travel in May expecting Songkran street parties. If you're here for a holiday weekend, expect more Thai visitors than on an ordinary weekday.

Quieter than peak season

May is generally less crowded than December to February, Pattaya's best-weather months. You'll find fewer winter sunseekers, and prices are often lower than in that high season. Rain and humidity are the trade-off.

If you hate crowds, May can suit you, especially outside holiday weekends. For a practical rainy-day plan, head to Terminal 21 in North Pattaya; it's an easy place to wait out a downpour, eat, and return to the beach when the weather clears. Don't rely on clear skies for a full day outdoors.
