Papeete Weather in November

Warm, wet days

November feels warm and sticky in Papeete, with high humidity and frequent cloud. Rain falls on many days, but it usually comes as showers that interrupt plans rather than washing out the whole day. October is a little drier and December is much wetter, so November sits in the middle as the rainy season picks up pace.

Still, there's plenty to do between the showers. You can browse the covered stalls at Marché de Papeete, visit the Musée de Tahiti et des Îles, or settle into a long lunch of poisson cru, raw fish marinated in lime and coconut milk. If you're hoping for a beach day or a hike on Mount Aorai, keep your plans loose. Heavy showers can make trails muddy, and cloudy skies may dull the lagoon views.

Quieter, with holiday pauses

Crowds are where November quietly wins. Papeete's best months are June to September, so November falls outside that busy window. You'll generally find fewer visitors, and prices may be softer, though island stays can still cost more around the December holiday period. If you'd rather wander the waterfront without peak-season crowds, this is a good month for it.

Keep the calendar in mind, too. All Saints' Day and Armistice Day are public holidays in French Polynesia, and some shops and services may close, so don't count on a normal day of errands. Travelling with kids? The covered market is a handy stop when rain cuts a beach outing short.

Make the rain work for you

Since the weather is the main drawback, it helps to plan around it. A wet spell doesn't have to keep you indoors. Take a slow loop through central Papeete, then duck into the market for fruit, crafts and lunch. The covered upper floor gives you shelter while you explore, and you can still watch daily life around the harbour when the skies clear.

One practical tip: check the market's opening hours before you head over on a Sunday, as it isn't a reliable day for a full browse. Save Mount Aorai for a clearer forecast rather than tackling its steep, muddy trail in the rain. The weather can change your plans quickly, but Papeete's food and indoor sights make November workable.
