December: dark and wintry

Nuuk feels cold, damp and often overcast in December. The average high is -4°C and the low is -7°C, with rain or snow on 15 days. You'll get only a short stretch of daylight, and the sun is often hidden by cloud.

That makes indoor visits a good fit. Spend the dim afternoon at Katuaq, Nuuk's cultural centre, or explore the National Museum. A short walk around the harbour can be lovely when the weather clears, but don't count on long hikes or far-reaching views. Slippery paths and poor visibility can make them a slog.

Christmas in town
