Visiting Ngerulmud in June
June: rain shapes the day
June is hot, muggy and very wet in Ngerulmud. Rain falls every day, with thick cloud and little sunshine, so outdoor plans can quickly turn soggy. The weather is slightly cooler than May, but rain increases again in July.
You can still visit the National Capitol and nearby village sights between showers. Keep outdoor stops flexible, and save long walks around Babeldaob for a clearer spell. Beaches are a poor bet for reliable sun, and muddy trails make hiking less appealing.
Events and visitor numbers
June has no major fixed national holiday in Palau that draws visitors to Ngerulmud. The city is quiet compared with Koror, and the capital's main draw is the Capitol complex rather than festivals or nightlife.
If you hate crowds, June is a calm time to see the government buildings and drive around Melekeok. It's also part of the wetter, quieter travel season, so you may find fewer visitors than in the drier months. Prices can be less pressured than during busier periods, though choices in Ngerulmud itself are limited.
Make the Capitol your anchor
Rain can interrupt a day on Babeldaob, so use the National Capitol as your main stop and fit nearby sights around it. The grand white complex sits on a hill above Ngerulmud; the approach road can feel especially slick after heavy showers.
Travelling with kids? A short Capitol visit is easier to manage than a long outdoor outing in the damp heat. For a meal, head back toward Koror for more choice, including Palauan staples such as taro and grilled fish. The capital has few services, so don't count on finding a café or shop beside the Capitol.
