You can still enjoy the lakeside, visit the Sukuma Museum at Bujora, or take in the views from Capri Point. Keep your plans flexible for outdoor sightseeing, and don't count on every afternoon being dry. Long hikes on muddy trails are less appealing this month.

Labour Day, on May 1, is a public holiday in Tanzania. Some shops and offices may close, while local celebrations can affect city traffic. May isn't known for a major Mwanza festival, so the holiday is the main event to keep in mind.

If you hate crowds, May may suit you better than the busier June and July period. It's a shoulder-season month: visitor numbers are generally lower, and accommodation may cost less than during those popular months.
