May weather on the Costa del Sol

May feels warm and mostly sunny in Marbella, with daytime highs around 23°C and evenings near 15°C. Rain is limited, though showers can still interrupt a beach day. Compared with April, it's warmer and drier; the sea may still feel cool for a long swim.

You'll have comfortable conditions for wandering the narrow streets of Casco Antiguo, eating outside in Plaza de los Naranjos, or walking the Paseo Marítimo. Beach afternoons work well, but don't count on June's more settled, dry weather. Save strenuous inland hikes for a cooler part of the day.

Flowers, fiestas and local life

May brings Marbella's Cruces de Mayo, when decorated crosses appear around town and locals gather for music and food. Dates and activities can vary, so the town may feel livelier around the celebrations. May Day is also a public holiday in Spain, when some shops and services may close.

For couples, May is a lovely month for long lunches in the Old Town before summer's heavier heat arrives.

Crowds and a useful local tip

Marbella is generally calmer in May than in July and August, and accommodation prices are often lower than during peak summer. Still, weekends and the Cruces de Mayo celebrations can draw more visitors. It's a good shoulder-season choice if you want beach time without the height of summer crowds.

For a quieter stroll, walk from the marina along the Paseo Marítimo towards the Golden Mile. You'll pass beach clubs and hotels, but the route is easy to dip in and out of, with Casco Antiguo close by for a meal afterwards.
